Game 1: 10:30 am Saturday versus Mount Pearl at Municipal Pitch, St. Lawrence.

Final Score: CBS 1 Mount Pearl 1

Boy what a difference one game makes. The last time we played Mount Pearl, CBS had 14 players & Mount Pearl 20. On this morning CBS bolstered by the 6 additions from Fortune & the return of Smokie had 19 players to Mount Pearl's 18. Mount Pearl came out crashing & banging as normal & import keeper Carey Rose shook off the early jitters & kept the score sheet clean & the first half ended scoreless. CBS put together a few offensive outbursts in the 2nd half. Import striker Dickie Foote had a couple of good runs & Craig Baker who was moved up to the forward line also had a couple cracks. However with 10 minutes remaining Dickie received an
outside pass at around 35 yards came in one on one on the right fullback & turned him inside out and scored on a nice shot from just inside the 18 yard area. However victory was not in the cards, as linesman Jim Loder made a very poor call with 5 minutes remaining giving Mount Pearl a gift penalty shot, for what, no one really knows and Mount Pearl midfielder

Gerry O'Brien evened the score. CBS deserved a better fate and the final whistle signalling a 1-1 draw.

Game 2: 3:00 pm Saturday versus Lawn at Laurentian Grounds, St. Lawrence.
Final Score: Lawn 2 CBS 0

This one was closer than the score indicates. Lawn controlled the first half & dominated at times, but they could not beat keeper Carey Rose who was more than steady in the nets. The first half ended scoreless. CBS played a better second half but couldn't muster any real offence. With
just under 10 minutes remaining, a frantic scrambled ensued inside the CBS 6 yard box and just before a Lawn player was about to kick the ball in the net, import defender Wayne Collins dropped down to try to block the ball & was called by the linesman for handling the ball. On the ensuing penalty Bill Warren scored for Lawn & they were up 1-0. Just over a minute later
the result was sealed when Sam Warren scored on a nice shot from 12 yards out that froze keeper Carey Rose.

Game 3: 6:00 pm Saturday versus Paradise at Laurentian Grounds, St. Lawrence
Paradise3 2; CBS 0

The final game was the battle for bragging rights on the shore. In a game that saw both teams going at half speed, Paradise scored once in both halves to come away with a 2-0 win. Ernie Sharpe & Phil Walsh scored for Paradise. Gary Clancey made a few stops to earn the shutout.

St. Lawrence won the title by blanking Lawn 3-0 in the championship match.

Players who donned the blue jerseys included: Gerard Kenny, Clyde Thornhill, Denis Dober, Todd Ryan, Terry Fleming, Brian Gosse, Jeff Haines, Tony Baker, Craig Baker, Dale Temple, Claude Favre, Shawn Paul, Steve "Smokie" O'Driscoll, Carey Rose, Walter "Dickie" Foote, Peter Boland, Dave Holloway, Wayne Collins, Ed Hillier and Freeman "Shiny" Hillier.

All in all it was a great weekend & a few laughs. Thanks go out to the imports from Fortune who played their hearts out & improved the CBS team immensely.
