Game 11: Holy Cross 4 CBS 0

August 8,2005 at 8:30pm
Wishingwell Field
Weather Conditions: 19c with a light breeze

Game 11 marked the beginning of the second half of the season. Things started well as Captain Cal decided to move Brian Gosse up from fullback to center midfield to start the game. CBS controlled the first 10 minutes or so with Brian right in the middle of things. "The Mayor", Shawn Tilley made his first start of the season after spending the first half of the season touring the brothels of Amsterdam & watching the Bundesliga. The tide turned in the favour of Holy Cross when Paul Winsor scored at the 30 minute. We held our own and even had a couple of good chances but couldn't finish. The half time whistlewas sounded by ex Crusader "German" with the score 1-0 for Cross.

We were still in this one....so we thought. Holy Cross came out in the second half & scored two more markers by the 60th minute. The second one was as a result of a misjudgement by fullback Gerard "Help Me" Kenny who allowed a volley by the Cross goalkeeper to bounce over his head allowing the Cross striker to advance from midfield with Clyde "one contact lens" Thornhill clipping at his heals to no avail and score on a 40 yard breakaway. It was all
over....but for the crying. Darryl Whelan added insult to injury by scoring late in the game on a free kick from 25 yards which he kicked beyond a disorganized wall & into the center of the net.

On a plus side it was noted that strikers Steve Major and Todd Ryan ran all night & harassed the Holy Cross fullbacks, Brian Gosse played very well in the midfield, Mark Penney looks like a nice addition and it was great to have "TheMayor" back in the fold.

Roger "sore neck" Power handled the stop watch and sideline interviews while Rick "bad ankle" Squires sat in amazement as the spectacle unravelled beforehis eyes.

It was a kinda chippy match but we escaped with just a few bumps a bruises, nothing the nice iced down Molson products couldn't fix.

Our next match is tomorrow night once again at Wishingwell Field at 8:30 versus our arch rivals Mount Pearl.

Some video from the match is shown below. Check it out.
