Game 13: Molson 2 CBS 0

August 15, 2005 at 6:30pm
Nugent Field - Kelligrews
Weather Conditions: 15c with light winds

Game 13 saw the CBS goal scoring draught run to three consecutive games. The lush green grass of early summer has given way to the brown lifeless hay of August. The dog days have taken a big bite out of our team. A constant struggle to field a team has taken a toll, the "what ifs" and "the too bads" linger like a bad hangover, but a nice cold beer soon remedied the anguish. Last night saw the return of "Le Gros" Pierre Gauvreau who missed the first 12 matches, his return brought back memories of grander games. From the kickoff CBS controlled the first ten minutes. Molson were in disarray as they started the match with only 11 men. However things turned in their favour at the 15 minute mark when CBS defenders played the offside trap which did not work, as we were once again without linesmen, and a Molson attacker slipped through and scored on a breakaway. Ten minutes later they banged in another. An uninspired CBS team played like the brown worn field looked....... tired....... and the half time whistle sounded with Molson up 2-0.

Captain Cal rallied the troops at the half and came up with a change of strategy.......a 2-5-3 formation....moving one fullback up to the midfield line. The strategy working immediately and CBS took control of the second half and held the majority of the play the rest of the way. The hances were there.....the finishing wasn't. The terrible sound of the final whistle brought an end to a promising second half. Gerard quickly collected the beer from his car, the players eyes widen with delight as the spectacle of glimmering ice shone through on a warm, dry August night. The rays from the setting sun cast shadows on our faces as the first drops of heavenly nectar splashed against our parched throats. Our spirits were again renewed and chatter of how we will approach our next match arose from the dust. Thoughts of " Will we ever score again?" lingered only to be replaced by the eternal excitement of, "boys, we'll get 'em next time."
Yes.....think positive.......as Gerard always says "This is the exhibition season....let's win the game that counts.... in September". We still have the rest of August figure out how to get that ever elusive goal. Thanks to Molson Breweries, Mark Hatfield and Dale Temple for coming out & giving us fresh legs and to Keith Rideout for tending the net.
