CBS Masters Game 2: Labatts Star 2 CBS 1

June 20, 2005 at Wishingwell Field
Weather: 14c, Winds WSW 30 gusting to 42

CBS fought diligently but could not come up with the equalizer in a 2-1 loss to Labatt's Star in a match played in windy conditions at the Wishingwell Bog. CBS had the wind in the first half but it was Star who came out flying with 2 quick markers in the first 20 minutes. Craig Baker subbing for ailing keeper Keith Garland (flu) could not be faulted for either of the goals. Captain Cal got the lone marker for CBS 40 minutes in on a 45 yarder that was aided by the prevailing westerlies. The Star keeper was caught off his line and the ball sailed over his head & into the net. CBS came out stronger against the wind in the second half and gradually took the play to Star. With 17 minutes to play, Todd Ryan was sent in all alone and was hauled down inside the 18 yard box. The subsequent penalty kick was taken by Brian Gosse who was thwarted by the Star Keeper. All in all it was a good effort by the boys from the shore who deserved a better result. Player of the Match was Captain Cal with a definite honourable mention to Craig Baker who was morethan steady in the net.

Players who played:
Craig Baker, Jeff Haines, Gerard Kenny, Clyde Thornhill, Cal Dwyer,
